A Provisional Crown is a crown utilized as an interim restoration to fill in a blank space. The primary function of this temporary crown is strictly for aesthetics. It is not a durable appliance nor is it functional for biting or chewing.
Provisional Crowns are usually placed on front teeth or teeth that show when you smile. There are two kinds of provisional crowns; screw retained or cemented , both to the abutment that is attached to the implant. The crown is fabricated and placed by Dr. Stein during your implant surgery. Precision and fit is critical to the implant procedure. This process requires additional time which is why provisional/temporary crowns on an implant are almost twice as expensive as a temporary crown for a natural tooth. You are paying for "time "versus" materials".
If you have a crown on the tooth we are extracting, implanting, and putting a provisional crown on, we can try to use your current crown, so the "color match" is already there, however you will still be charged the full fee for the provisional crown as you are paying for time verses materials! (How complicated!)
