Dental implants are a clear, superior alternative to replace missing teeth and  provide a fixed solution to having a removable partial or complete dentures.  Implants provide excellent support and stability for these dental appliances.

Dental implants are artificial roots and teeth (usually titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by your oral surgeon Dr. Stein.  The teeth attached to implants are completely natural looking and enhance or restore a patient’s smile!

Dental implants are strong and durable and should last many years if not a lifetime! The crown on the implant may have to be replaced due to normal wear, the same as if it were a natural tooth.

Reasons for dental implants:

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
  • The ability to chew and enjoy all the hard to eat foods you could not eat before.
  • Restore and enhance facial tissues.
  • Prevent additional bone loss.
  • Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable.
  • Restore your confidants and smile.
  • Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space.

What is involved in getting dental implants?

An I-Cat Scan® X-ray will be taken to determine bone density and spacing.  This will confirm if you are a candidate for Dental Implants.

For the surgical procedure, sedation options will be discussed and decided at your consultation.  The actual surgery is not particulary painful. However, for the comfort of your jaw joint, the length of time your mouth is opened and your stress level, IV sedation may be advised by Dr. Stein.  Not only is this an extremely safe and monitored form of sedation, your procedure is more comfortable and even will seem to go faster!

The implant will be surgically placed into the bone and then allowed to heal and integrate. In most cases this averages three to four months.  Depending on the type of implant placement, a second minor procedure may be required  to place the “abutment” that will hold the artificial tooth in place.  With other implants the abutment and anchor are already attached and placed at the same time.

You will receive complete pre-operative and post-operative care instructions along with any prescriptions and dietary suggestions and restrictions if necessary.
